Oils & Ethers

• Almond (Sweet) (Amygdalus communis - Oil of the nut)Sweet Almond is an excellent all purpose emollient. An external carrier oil, for balms, creams and lotions.
• Jasmine (Jasminum officinale - Oil from the flowers)A valuable aromatic oil, jasmine helps to uplift the spirit and produces a feeling of confidence, optimism and often happiness. Its aroma is revitalising and soothing to the nerves and can be beneficial in cases of low mood. One of the most expensive pure flower oils today.
• Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis - Oil from the seed)Long used topically, Jojoba is well known for its properties to promote healthy skin and for healing of sores and wounds. It contains many important nutrients such as vitamin E and B. It's also rich in organic iodine, which is essential to the thyroid gland and functions and to the health of the body.
• Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia (also known as Lavandula. officinalis, spica and vera) - Oil from the flowers)An essential oil, lavender is useful for sunburn, wounds, irritated skin, lice, insect bites, stings, and also acts as an insect repellent.
• Neroli (Citrus aurantium sevelle - Oil from the orange blossom)An aromatic oil - used topically, Neroli helps to regenerate skin cells and prevent scar tissue. It promotes smoother skin, fights stretch marks and helps to reduce the appearance of broken capillaries.
• Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin (also known as Pogostemon patchouli) - Oil of the resinous gum)Used to supports the body's defences, it supports fluid balance, bowel regularity, cellulite reduction and weight management. Topically, it is a tissue regenerator, assisting the stimulation and growth of new skin cells. A wound healer, it promotes quicker healing and helps to prevent scarring.
• Rose-geranium (Pelargonium graveolens - Oil of the flower petals)An aromatic oil Rose geranium oil helps to balance the secretion of sebum and clears sluggish and oily skins, while the antiseptic and cicatrisant properties make this oil an effective aid to help with burns, wounds, ulcers and other skin problems. Rose-Geranium is soothing, oxygen-rich, and healing to skin tissues.
• Rosehip (Rosa canina - Oil of the rosehip (seed))Rich in Vitamin C, Rosehip is a nutritional healing oil that's essential in the formation and synthesis of collagen in the skin to help with premature aging.
• Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata - Oil of the flower)Ylang-ylang oil was especially chosen by the Herbalist for its properties that benefit both over-dry as well as overly-oily skin by balancing the secretion of sebum, and because it has a stimulating effect on the scalp which promotes more luxurious hair growth.

Herbs

• Aloe Vera (Aloaceae vera - The dried gel)Aloe Vera is well known for its healing properties in treating wounds and burns. A veritable super-plant, it contains 70 essential ingredients including B12, minerals, enzymes, protein and amino acids. It is an astringent, and a stimulator of cell growth. It also reduces scarring when applied topically.
• Turmeric (Curcuma longa - The rhizome)The properties of turmeric include alterative (restores health), antiseptic, relaxant and has cardiovascular properties. It is also a carminative (expels gas) and is a good hepatic herb for the liver. Its vulnerary properties make it good for wound healing. It is also helpful to the digestive system and supports fluid balance.

Gums

• Acacia (Acacia decurrens - A fine, off-white powder from the gum)Used for thickening and binding, Acacia provides the base for many of Malcolm products.
• Tragacanth (Austragalis gummifer - A white fine powder from the gum)Tragacanth is a gum sourced from dried sap. It provides an emulsifier, thickener and stabiliser and is used as a lotion base and shampoo hair softener.

Seaweeds

• Carrageen (Irish Moss) (Chondrus crispus)Malcolm Harker tonics are unique in that every syrup, elixir and quintessence is created with unprocessed Carrageen seaweed syrup as a base. It gives syrup texture and provides ocean minerals and trace elements (including iodine) to each product. The bromides and halogens within seaweeds represent some of the greatest healing and nutritional elements for the human body. It is this seaweed-nutrient matrix that offers up to 30% of each product's therapeutic properties and efficiency.

• Coconut fat (Cocos nucifera - The fat of the coconut meat.)A wonderful skin emollient - coconut fat helps to soften and soothe the skin. It is rich in fatty acids, so it is used as a base ingredient for skin creams. Melted, it is deemed an 'oil'.

• Glucate cream (natural) (A natural, sweet almond oil-based creamy substance.)Glucate cream is used as base ingredient in variety of skin creams. An excellent natural emollient and moisturiser, we have sourced one of the most natural glucates.
• Glycerine (veg) (A sweet tri-atomic alcohol)An organic compound - Glycerine (veg) provides a natural preservative. It is also a nutriment, a solvent (of heavy metals), a bactericide and is hygroscopic - which means that it attracts moisture from the air.
